Spirit wear fundraising for softball programs
Team stores for high school softball programs and booster clubs. We build, print, ship and market it, with 20% of every order back to the club.
Softball programs tend to run on a tighter parent group than baseball, and that is the fact that should shape the store. The crowd is smaller, but it is close-knit, it turns out for nearly every game, and word travels through it faster than any promotion would. A store that is announced properly at one parent meeting will reach effectively the entire audience.
That concentration cuts both ways. There is very little casual purchasing to fall back on, so the range has to be right for families rather than broad enough to catch a passing crowd. Items that identify the buyer as a specific player's parent do most of the work.
Programs also frequently share facilities and scheduling with baseball while having a noticeably smaller budget, which makes the fundraising more consequential rather than less.
When the demand actually arrives
Spring, running alongside baseball, with cold early-season evenings and a warmer back half. Home dates are frequent and the same families attend nearly all of them.
Timing is the part clubs get wrong most often, and it costs more than the range does. The full argument is in when to launch a spirit wear store.
What sells for a softball program
Not a general list of spirit wear. These are the items that move for this program specifically, and the reason each one does.
- Player name and number apparel. The strongest category in softball by some distance, because nearly the entire audience is a family of somebody on the roster.
- Visors and caps. Worn during play and in the stands, and a category where offering both styles noticeably lifts the total.
- Hooded sweatshirts and pullovers. Early-season evenings are cold and the crowd is sitting still through a long game.
- Bat and equipment bags. Needed anyway, and better bought once through a store than sourced individually in five different colors.
What the money usually goes toward
Worth naming explicitly when you launch. Families give more readily to a specific cost than to program funds in the abstract.
- Field maintenance and infield upkeep
- Umpire fees across the home schedule
- Bats, balls and catching equipment
- Tournament entry and travel
What we handle, and what you do
1. You send colors, marks and rosters
Along with written confirmation from the district that the club may use the school name and logo. That is the entire job on your side.
2. We build and you approve
We design the range and the storefront around what sells for a softball program, and the range you approve is the range that sells for the rest of the season.
3. We print, ship and support
Each order is produced after it is bought and shipped direct to that buyer. No sorting, no distribution day, no leftover sizes.
4. We promote it
Text and email campaigns to your opted-in families, timed to the points in this program’s season when people actually buy.
5. You get paid
20% of total order value, remitted on a set schedule. A share of what the store sells, not a share of margin after costs.
Questions from softball clubs
- Our parent group is small. Is a store worth it?
- It is, because there is no setup cost and no inventory to carry, so a small group is not risking anything by running one. A concentrated audience with high conversion often produces a better result than a large audience that mostly ignores it.
- How do we get the word out with no budget?
- One announcement at a parent meeting, one text to the team list, and a link somewhere permanent. In a group this size that reaches essentially everybody, and repeating it before the first home game matters more than anything clever.
- Should we share a store with baseball?
- Usually not. The families are more separate than the shared facility suggests, and the ranges want to differ. Two stores generally raise more than one combined store here.
Other programs at the same school
Most clubs we work with run more than one. Each of these has its own season and its own range.
